SEO Tips to Optimize Your Web Pages

Improve Your SEO Link Strategy with "Link Relevance"

When we talk about making offers that attract attention, we always advise clients to avoid the boring non-offer, "Send me more information." (yawn)  So it is with naming text links within your site.  Avoid the ultra-boring and no-help-in-terms-of-SEO "click here" text link.

Known as "Anchor Text", the actual words that form your text link are weighted highly by search engines. The actual link words are indexed as part of the page content by the search engine, and assumed to be relevant to the destination page. Links surrounded by text (links within body copy, for example) are generally assumed to be of higher relevance than other links (within a navigation bar, for example).

Focus Each Page of Your Website around One or Two Keywords

Of course, your basic SEO efforts should also include:

1. Unique Page Title for every page on your site, using the keyword(s) that is/are the focus of that page.  Your Page Title is used as the Headline when the page appears in Google's organic search engine listings.  About 64 characters will be used from your Page Title for your search listing Headline.

2. Unique Description for every page.  About 160 characters will be used from your Meta Description for your search listing description.

3. Use of the keyword(s) within your Body copy, especially in first and last paragraphs.

4.  Use of the keyword(s) in your H1 Headline tag on each page, and in your H2 subheads on each page.

5.  Use of keywords in the file name of any Images, and in the Alt Text (alternate text) for each Image.
